Cannes Chimera is an initiative by the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that aims to use the creative power of communication professionals around the world to do good.
Periodically, the Gates Foundation puts out a brief to solve a problem the world is facing. Anyone with an idea can answer that brief by just writing it down on two sides of paper. Up to ten of the best ideas will then be awarded $100,000 dollars each, and the finalists will be flown to a special “university” session to meet with the Cannes Chimera for two days.
The Cannes Chimera is a group of exceptional creative talent, made up of previous Cannes Lions Grand Prix winners. They will work with the finalists to make their ideas better. After this process the finalists have the opportunity to go back to the Gates Foundation and apply for $1,000,000 to make their idea a reality.
In May 2012, the first unique Cannes Chimera challenge Aid is Working. Tell the World drew 914 entries from 85 countries. View our gallery to see what happened when the ten finalists went to Seattle to work with the Chimera on refining their unique ideas. See the pictures now....
